Frontier League Hot Stove Notebook
« Back

January 20, 2009 - The new year started with plenty of wheeling and dealing, as well as a second chance in affiliated ball for a Frontier Leaguer. A brief glance at recent Frontier League transactions:

Southern Illinois Tim Dorn signed with Anaheim. It's the second time the Miners have lost him. St. Louis signed Dorn early in the 2007 season.

The Miners also made or completed three trades after the holidays. They received pitcher Cardoza Tucker from Ottawa of the independent Can-Am League to complete an earlier trade for pitcher Reid Price and pitcher Chandler Barnard from Worchester of the CAL to finish the earlier deal for outfielder Josh Farkas. The Miners also sent infielder Mike Victor to Florence for pitcher Gary Lee.

In another trade, the Freedom gave up their first-round pick in this year's draft to get Lake Erie's Marty Wiesler. The Crushers then gave up a first-round pick to pick up Evansville outfielder Luke Hetherington.

Florence, managed by former River City skipper Toby Brumfield, swung a six-player deal with the Rascals. First baseman Jeff Miller, pitcher Jon Miller and infielder Brad Hough will be reunited with their old manager in Kentucky. The Rascals got infielder Dorian Rojas, outfielder Garth McKinney and pitcher Brandon Hammlett.

Worchester has been making moves with several FL teams recently. The Tornadoes picked up center fielder Brad Roblin from Traverse City in exchange for future considerations and sent pitcher Justin Edwards to Washington to complete an earlier deal for pitcher Ryan Mitchell.

Windy City got pitcher Brandon Kloess from Texarkana of the independent Continental League in exchange for future considerations.
