January 24, 2008 - The new year has brought lots of movement in the Frontier League and among former Frontier League players.

Former Gateway ace Scott Patterson was signed to a major-league contract by the New York Yankees before the holidays. He pitched last season at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Class AA Trenton.

Traverse City is losing two starting position players, the Beach Bums announced on Thursday. First baseman Brad Vericker has retired. The Bums traded outfielder Aaron Garza to expansion Grand Prairie of the independent American Association in exchange for future considerations.

Last week, Washington traded outfielder Jarod Rine and pitchers Tom Cochran and Justin Mattison to Worcester of the Can-Am League for Ryan Mitchell.

Defending champion Windy City has lost all but one member of its coaching staff. Pitching coach Brendan Sagara, who pitched for Evansville in 1999, left the 'Bolts to take the same role with the Otters. Hitting coach Ronnie Deck
