Alumni report - James, Dowdy Aces for United League champions

September 10, 2007 - The Alexandria Aces swept the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, four games to none, last month to win the independent United League pennant. Former Rockford pitchers Frank James and Justin Dowdy had significant roles in the Aces’ championship run. James was the Game 2 winner and finished the year 9-5 with a 3.95 ERA. Dowdy led the league with 24 saves and was 2-3 with a 1.37 ERA and 102 strikeouts in just 52 2/3 innings. Dowdy had two saves in the championship series, including a scoreless inning in Game 4, a 7-4 Aces win on Aug. 28.
