June 16, 2011 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Lake Erie Crushers scored seven unanswered runs to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 7-3, Thursday at Road Ranger Stadium.
The Crushers snapped a seven-game losing streak, in front of a crowd of 2,065. The RiverHawks lost their fourth in a row and 10th in their last 13 games.
Joel Collins and Kellen Kulbacki hit home runs for Lake Erie. Rockford’s Matt Greener was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In the eighth inning, Lake Erie scored three times off reliever Brandon Garner to take a 6-3 lead. The Crushers loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Garner (0-1) threw a wild pitch to bring home Jason Taylor with the go-ahead run. Adam Gliebe hit a sacrifice fly and the third run scored on a passed ball.
Kulbacki homered in the ninth.
Kelyn Schellenberg (1-0) faced the minimum of seven batters over 2 1/3 innings to win in relief.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The RiverHawks will welcome their 1 millionth fan in the team’s 10-year history. The lucky fan will win a flight for two, courtesy of Chicago Rockford International Airport.
