RiverHawks sign rookie; McGee retires

June 16, 2011 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – One career is beginning and another one has ended.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced on Thursday the signing of rookie pitcher Joey Gradney and the retirement of pitcher Todd McGee.

Gradney was 3-5 with a 4.18 earned-run average in 10 appearances this spring at NCAA Division II Lewis University. He struck out 41 and walked nine in 51 2/3 innings. Lewis pitching coach Scott Sobkowiak pitched for the RiverHawks in 2003-04.

McGee was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in eight appearances for the RiverHawks this season.
