January 19, 2011 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will open their 10th season in barely four months.

Rockford’s only professional baseball team announced on Wednesday its 2011 North American League schedule. The RiverHawks open the 96-game season with a game against the Schaumburg Flyers at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at Road Ranger Stadium.

The season opener starts a seven-game, split-site series against their nearest geographic rivals. The RiverHawks host the Flyers for the first four games, then visit Schaumburg for three.

The 48-game home schedule features nine Thursdays, seven Fridays, nine Saturdays and seven Sundays. Thursday’s are Dollar Beer Nights, Fridays and Saturdays traditionally feature fireworks or giveaways and Sundays are family days. The team’s promotional schedule is under development and will be released at a later date.

“We’re excited to have our schedule in hand,” RiverHawks general manager Brad Sholes said. “This schedule has the potential to be our best schedule in recent years. We’re looking forward to putting together a promotional schedule to maximize all those weekend dates.”

Home game times remain 7:05 p.m. weeknights and 6:05 p.m. Saturdays. Sunday starting times have not been determined. Fans can participate in a poll at the team website to provide their input on Sunday game times.

The offseason merger of the Northern, United and Golden Leagues will bring four new teams – the San Angelo Colts, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and Edinburg Roadrunners, all from Texas, and the Chico (Calif.) Outlaws – as well as Schaumburg and the Lake County Fielders to Road Ranger Stadium.

In the unbalanced format, the RiverHawks will play 92 games against East Division opponents Schaumburg, Lake County, San Angelo, Rio Grande Valley and Edinburg. Chico is the only West Division opponent on the schedule. The RiverHawks would only face Calgary, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Maui and Yuma in the postseason, which is planned to be a neutral-site, double-elimination tournament.

The RiverHawks play nine of their first 12 games at home and also have a healthy home stretch around the Independence Day holiday. They’ll be home June 29-July 6. Rio Grande Valley and Schaumburg each visit for four games during that homestand.

The home finale is against at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 against the Fielders. The RiverHawks then visit Lake County for a four-game series to close the season.

The RiverHawks will play their 10th season in the Stateline in 2011. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
