Koopmann among college coaches at combine
« Back

December 2, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rockford RiverHawks manager Bob Koopmann is no stranger to finding talented players. You just never know when the right player comes along that can turn your team into a champion. Koopman will be doing more searching this weekend, but instead of hearing his RiverHawks hat, he will be sporting his Rockford College attire.

On Sunday, Koopmann will join more than a dozen college coaches at Wallbangers Academy, 7135 Clinton Road in Loves Park, to watch a player combine designed for current high school players to showcase their skills with the hopes of earning an invite to play college baseball. Joining Koopmann will be coaches from Northern Illinois University, Western University and St. Joes out of Indiana. More than 50 colleges and universities have been invited.

This will be a two-part event with position players and pitchers. Position players will work out from noon to 3 p.m. The players will be evaluated in the 60-yard run, infielders fielding and throwing, outfielders throwing from outfield, catchers pop times, hitting drills and batting practice

Pitchers and catchers: will work out from 3 to 4 p.m. Evaluated pitchers will throw a 15-pitch bullpen session.

Advertising and season-ticket information for the RiverHawks’ 10th season is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and on ESPN1380.com. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
