O’Sullivan singles in winning run in 6-5 walkoff

August 3, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Pat O’Sullivan singled in the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning on Tuesday as the Rockford RiverHawks took a 6-5 walkoff victory over the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium.

The RiverHawks rallied for three runs in the ninth inning and earned a walkoff win for the second time in five days.

O’Sullivan was 3-for-5 with a RBI. John Wagle was 2-for-5 with three RBI.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Schaumburg reliever Cody Evans (2-4) hit pinch-hitter Rich Austin with an 0-2 pitch to start the inning. Jono Brooks singled and Kevin House sacrificed. Wagle singled in the tying runs with one out and scored on O’Sullivan’s roller to right field.

Rockford reliever Mike McTamney (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth inning to win.

Joey Gomes hit his third home run of the series for the Flyers, who lost leads of 3-0 and 5-3.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. It’s Rock River Valley Blood Center “Straight From the Heart” Wednesday. Fans who donate blood at any RRVBC location will receive a voucher for any 2010 Wednesday home game. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will also be on hand to promote blood, organ and tissue donation.
