Hats, bobbleheads, Jimmy Buffett, Sean Considine, and MDA jersey auction kick off second half

July 12, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks begin the second half of the season Thursday when they host the Lake County Fielders at Road Ranger Stadium. Highlighting the homestand are premium giveaways and special themed days.

All the action begins at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, when the RiverHawks host the Fielders. Prior to the game, the second annual guns vs. hoses charity softball game will be played at 4 p.m. It’s another 2nd Cousin’s Bar and Grill and Miller Lite dollar beer night, as well as a Jimmy Buffett theme night. Thursday is the Rockford Chamber Night, and Byron Community Night. The RiverHawks will wear specialized uniforms with Jacksonville Jaguars color schemes, in honor of Byron native and Jaguars Safety Sean Considine. After the game, fans will have a chance to bid on the jerseys. The proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Friday, the first 1,000 fans who enter Road Ranger Stadium will receive Randall Simon bobblehead dolls, courtesy of Stanley Steemer, BOB FM, and WIFR. It’s also a Road Ranger Free Gas Friday where random fans in attendance can win free gas. All fans can enjoy a Friday Fish Fry by visiting the concession stands at the ballpark for a fish and chips basket. State Farm Insurance will host the second youth clinic of 2010. All kids who participate in the clinic from 5-5:50 p.m. will receive free admission to the game. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, Gerber Collision and WIFR will give away baseball hats to the first 1,000 fans. Roxy Carmichael hosts Ladies’ Night. Game starts at 6:05

Sunday concludes the homestand. It’s a Cost Cutters and MyGofer.com Family day. The Illinois Railway Museum and Midwest Rail Junction provide free train rides during the game. After the game, kids can run the bases. It is Rich Austin baseball card giveaway day and all players will be available for autographs following the game. Cherry Blossom Florist hosts the “Ode to Mom”, Mother’s Day in July. The first 300 mothers will receive red roses, and Cherry Blossom Florists will award flower arrangements every inning, which includes the fan favorite Sweetheart of the Game. Sunday is also Belvidere youth baseball day. The Belvidere Food Pantry will be in attendance to accept donations. For every five items brought to the ballpark, fans will receive a ticket for half price. First pitch is 4:05 p.m.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season.
