« Back

June 27, 2010 - WINNIPEG, Manitoba – The Rockford RiverHawks waited more than 3 hours to play Saturday. They waited in vain the rest of the night for a big hit.

The RiverHawks left 11 on base – seven in scoring position – and lost, 7-3, to Winnipeg at Canwest Park. The game was delayed by 3:24 because of a thunderstorm that arrived at the scheduled gametime.

The RiverHawks took an early 2-0 lead on Evan McArthur’s two-out RBI single in the second inning and Travis Scott’s run-scoring groundout in the third.

Dee Brown tied the game on a two-out, two-run double in the Winnipeg fourth inning and Kevin West hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Rockford reliever Justin Knoff (0-1) in the fifth.

Winnipeg starter Mark Holliman (4-1) scattered four hits over six innings for the win. He struck out a season-high 10 and walked four.

The finale of the four-game series is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The RiverHawks come home to play Schaumburg at 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 2. The Independence Day weekend starts with postgame fireworks, sponsored by Rock Valley College. It’s also the Friday Fish Fry and Free Gas Friday.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and on ESPN1380.com.
