RiverHawks score four in fourth for 5-4 win

May 29, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks scored four times in a nine-batter fourth inning on Saturday and beat the visiting Winnipeg Goldeyes, 5-4.

The RiverHawks opened the fourth with six straight hits to snap a 1-1 tie, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 2,918 at Road Ranger Stadium. Patrick O’Sullivan led off with a double to left field and Jake Eigsti singled him to third. Jono Brooks doubled in the go-ahead run. Evan McAarthur and Elvin Millan, Jr. followed with RBI singles and David Cooper beat out an infield hit to load the bases. Winnipeg starter Antony Bello (0-2) didn’t record an out until Kevin House’s sacrifice fly drove in McArthur.

Rockford starter Brett Durand (2-0) lasted 6 1/3 innings for the win. He left after back-to-back one-out hits by Josh Asanovich and Jeremy Hamilton. Luis Alen doubled in both and later scored on a groundout. Rockford closer Scott Roehl gave up a leadoff single in the ninth inning, but retired the next three for his fourth save.

The series finale is at 4:05 p.m. Sunday. Costcutters sponsors Kids Day at the stadium. Early arrivals receive a Kevin House large-scale baseball card. Kids can ride the stadium train for free, courtesy of Midwest Rail Junction and the Illinois Railway Museum. Numerous costumed adventurers will also appear at the stadium on Superhero Day. In addition, kids get to run the bases following the game.
