December 14, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Veteran hitting instructor J.D. Arndt will return for another season on the Rockford RiverHawks’ coaching staff, the team announced Monday.

Arndt will again coach the team’s hitters as the RiverHawks play their first season in the independent Northern League.

“JD’s been with us eight years,” co-owner and director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said. “He’s been a hard worker and a loyal coach and I think he has a good grasp on the technical and on the mental side of hitting.”

Last season, the RiverHawks hit a composite .275, tied for third in the Frontier League. Each of the last two years, a RiverHawk led the league in hitting.

“I’m excited and thrilled to be a part of the coaching staff as we work with Dave on bringing in quality players,” Arndt said. “I’m looking forward to a great season in the Northern League.”

Arndt was the team’s hitting coach in 2003-05 and again last season. He was the team’s manager in 2006-07 and the defensive coordinator in 2008. The RiverHawks reached the Frontier League playoffs in each of Arndt’s seasons as skipper.

“Keeping him on board was one of my highest priorities not just because of his loyalty but because of his knowledge and his work ethic,” Ciarrachi said.

Arndt also has extensive amateur coaching experience. He has been the head coach of the Athletes in Action team in the Alaska League, a NCAA-sanctioned summer college league, and has been the hitting coach at NAIA powerhouse Missouri Baptist University. Arndt coached more than 30 players at the amateur level who went on to play professionally, including two major-leaguers. He has also coached 14 All-American position players while in the college game. None of his college teams ever hit less than .300 and each reached the postseason.

Arndt has a bachelor’s degree in history from MBU. He has a master’s in education with emphasis on counseling from MBU.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
