Kings snap RiverHawks’ win streak, 12-3

July 17, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Kalamazoo Kings scored six unearned runs in the fifth inning on Friday and snapped a season-worst six-game losing streak with a 12-3 win over the Rockford RiverHawks at Road Ranger Stadium.

Joe Ramos and Jett Ruiz homered for the Kings, who ended Rockford’s season-best six-game winning streak. The RiverHawks, who had won 11 of 12 before the Frontier League All-Star Game, fell to 26-23.

Kalamazoo sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth and took a 7-2 lead. Josh Short walked with the bases loaded to force home the tying run. With two outs, Amos Ramon doubled home two runs to drive Rockford starter Jay Monti (5-4) from the game and Jett Ruiz greeted reliever Matt Enderle with a three-run homer.

Scott Reid
(1-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win. Andre Benjamin pitched the final three innings and earned his first save.

Rockford’s Jason James was 2-for-4 and extended his league-record hitting streak to 39 games.

The three-game series continues at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. The first 1,000 receive Andre Dawson bobblehead dolls, courtesy of Ferrelgas and WIFR-23.
