July 7, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The bottom of the order gave the Rockford RiverHawks the upper hand in Tuesday’s 7-5 win over Traverse City.

The seven through nine hitters, Anthony Albano, Caleb Fields (above, file) and Jono Brooks, combined for six hits and drove in six runs. Fields singled in the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the RiverHawks broke a 5-5 tie, in front of 2,389 at Road Ranger Stadium.

Rockford, which improved to 21-22, has won six of its last seven.

The game featured six lead changes or ties. After the Beach Bums scored in the first inning on back-to-back, two-out RBI singles by Sean Hoorelbeke and Brian Lapin, the RiverHawks rallied for a run in the third and another in the fourth. Brooks, who was 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits, featured prominently in each rally. He tripled in the third inning and scored on Matt Mazurek’s single. In the fourth, after Albano doubled, Brooks doubled him home.

Traverse City’s John Alonso hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Bums a 4-2 lead, but the bottom third of the Rockford lineup came through again in the sixth inning. Albano doubled in a run, Fields hit a sacrifice fly and Brooks doubled in a run as the RiverHawks pulled ahead, 5-4.

In the top of the eighth, the Beach Bums loaded the bases on three walks and tied the game on a two-out, pinch-hit infield single by Mike Victor. Jose Mateo (1-0) got out of the inning without further damage and picked up the win in relief. Rockford closer John Muller pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 10th save.

Traverse City reliever Jared Locke (0-2) took the loss.

Jason James had an infield single in four at-bats and extended his Frontier League-record hitting streak to 33 games.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. It’s a Family Value Night, when families can get four outfield box seats, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for $40.
