June 20, 2009 - SAUGET, Ill. – Former RiverHawk Stephen Holdren hit two home runs and drove in four runs on Saturday as the Gateway Grizzlies beat Rockford, 8-3, and completed a three-game series sweep.

The RiverHawks had swept the Grizzlies last weekend at Road Ranger Stadium and had won seven of nine coming in to the rematch.

On Saturday, the Grizzlies hit four home runs to send Rockford to its bullpen early. In the bottom of the first, Brandon Johnson and Holdren each hit solo home runs. In the third inning, Rockford starter Brett Durand (3-2) left a batter after he surrendered back-to-back home runs to Holdren and Charlie Lisk that left the RiverHawks behind, 6-0.

Gateway starter Joel Boeschen (1-2) lost the shutout in the top of the seventh inning, when the RiverHawks rallied for three runs. After Rockford loaded the bases with nobody out, Jono Brooks scored on a wild pitch, Mike Goetz hit a sacrifice fly and Matt Mazurek came home on a passed ball.

Rockford’s Jason James was 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, one short of the team record set by Ben Fjelland in 2002 and matched by Aaron McEachran in 2005.

Holdren was 3-for-4. He hit three home runs in the last two nights of the series.

The RiverHawks return home for a three-game series against Evansville at 4:05 p.m. Sunday as the RiverHawks celebrate Father’s Day. The first 1,000 receive a RiverHawks logo baseball, great for autographs or for catch. Before the game, fathers and kids can play catch on the field. After the game, players will also autograph balls and kids get to run the bases. The event is sponsored by OSF, Q98.5, and Fox 39.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 17th season. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com. Most games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380, and on the team website.
