June 14, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks have signed first baseman/outfielder Brandon Cohen, activated pitcher Fabian Gomez.

The team announced its moves prior to Sunday’s game against Gateway. To make room on the roster, Rockford released catcher Joe Dempsey and outfielder Mike Kalina.

Cohen spent 2007-08 with the RiverHawks and was a late cut in spring training this year. Cohen hit .190 with three home runs and 12 RBI last year. He played in just 37 games because of a broken hamate bone. Cohen has Rookie-2 status in the Frontier League.

Gomez went to the 14-day disabled list on May 29 because of a broken ring finger in his pitching hand. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA through four relief appearances.

Dempsey hit .111 with one RBI in seven games. Kalina hit .111 with no RBI in seven games.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 17th season. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
