RiverHawks split doubleheader exhibition with Windy City

May 12, 2009 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks split a doubleheader with the Windy City ThunderBolts in a preseason exhibition, losing the front end 8-6 and winning the second game 10-9.

The RiverHawks were limited to just three hits in the first seven innings of the game one loss. Windy City broke the game wide open in the fourth inning with a six-run tally, including a three-run home run from newcomer Vinny Scarduzio. Scott Simon was a bright spot for Rockford, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In game two, Rockford rallied from a 9-6 deficit with four runs in the 10th inning, thanks in part to an RBI triple from pinch-hitter Corey Lozano. The RiverHawks pounded out 13 hits, including two run-scoring doubles and a single from Jason James. Mike Goetz also had a pair of base hits with two stolen bases.

The Rockford RiverHawks are the most highly attended minor-league baseball team in the Stateline. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti.
