Ex-RiverHawk Anthonsen headed to Sioux Falls

March 24, 2009 - Former Rockford RiverHawk Joe Anthonsen is headed to the independent American Association.

The Sioux Falls Canaries announced Monday that they had purchased the contract of the infielder from Gary of the independent Northern League. The RiverHawks traded the 2008 Frontier League batting champion to the Railcats in November.

Last year, Anthonsen hit .352 with a team-record and league-best 135 hits. He also scored a team-record 79 runs.

Anthonsen finished his RiverHawks career with 309 hits, two behind Ben Fjelland for the all-time record. Anthonsen is the team’s all-time leader in games (278), at-bats (1,053), runs (170) and errors (48).
