‘Hawks schedule exhibitions, season-ticket party

March 2, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will once again tune up for the Frontier League schedule with a slate of exhibition games against Chicagoland teams. Not only will fans get a sneak peek at the 2009 edition of the RiverHawks, but season-ticket holders will be invited to a special preseason picnic scheduled during a May 16 exhibition doubleheader.

The RiverHawks on Monday announced their schedule for spring training, which begins on May 7 at Road Ranger Stadium. They’ll play exhibitions against two-time defending league champion Windy City as well as three teams from the Northern League and a game against Chicago State University.

The first day of workouts is also the start of the exhibition schedule. The RiverHawks host the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League at a time to be determined. The ‘Hawks then visit the Northern League’s Schaumburg Flyers at 3 p.m. on May 8.

On May 9, the RiverHawks will play their first-ever exhibition against an amateur team. They’ll travel to Chicago State University. Gametime has not been announced.

On May 10-11, the RiverHawks have a home-and-home exhibition series with the Northern League’s Gary Railcats. The teams play the opener at Road Ranger Stadium and the finale at U.S. Steel Yard. Each game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The RiverHawks complete spring training with four games against Windy City. They’ll travel to Crestwood for a doubleheader starting at noon on May 12. On May 16, the RiverHawks host a doubleheader against the ThunderBolts.

The RiverHawks’ annual party for season-ticket holders is scheduled to take place during the May 16 doubleheader. Fans with full or partial season tickets will be treated to free admission to the games and the RiverHawks will serve a complimentary dinner in the picnic pavilion. Fans will be able to pick up their season tickets at the event.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
