South Beloit’s Enderle stays with RiverHawks

February 18, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – A Stateline pitching product will again pitch for his local team this summer.

The team announced Wednesday that it had exercised the 2009 option on pitcher Matt Enderle. Enderle, a South Beloit native and Rockton Hononegah alumus, was a key left-handed option out of the bullpen last season.

Enderle was 4-2 with a 3.48 earned-run average in 35 relief appearances last year. He developed into the team’s primary long relief option in the second half of the season. Enderle was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his four appearances of three innings or more.

“His strength coming out of the bullpen last year was we always knew what we were going to get coming in. He threw three pitches for strikes, mainly sinker (and) changeup,” RiverHawks manager Bob Koopmann said.

Koopmann said Enderle was a better performer against right-handed batters because the motion on both his two-seamer and his changeup are down and away from righties. In addition, Enderle is working on adding a breaking pitch.

“That would allow him to have a bigger role on the team,” Koopmann said.

Enderle, 23, has Rookie-2 status in the Frontier League.
