« Back

February 11, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Shortstop Jono Brooks is coming back for a third season with the Rockford RiverHawks.

The team announced Wednesday that it had picked up the 2009 option on Brooks. Last season, Brooks hit .258 with a career-best nine home runs and 48 RBI. He also stole 16 bases in 20 attempts. Brooks had a .941 fielding percentage and 22 errors at shortstop.

Brooks missed more than two weeks last July after he suffered a separated and partially torn left shoulder in a collision.

Brooks is the only member of the starting infield from Opening Day 2008 to return for spring training.

The RiverHawks signed Brooks, a career .270 hitter, as a free agent in July 2007. Brooks, who turns 24 on March 22, has 1-Year status in the Frontier League.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
