Former RiverHawk Hagen wins a pennant
« Back

September 30, 2008 - Matt Hagen became the third former Rockford RiverHawk to win a pennant this season when the Somerset Patriots wrapped up the independent Atlantic League finals with a 3-2 win over visiting Camden on Monday.

Hagen, who played for the RiverHawks in 2007, joins Sacramento's Justin Dowdy (Class AAA Pacific Coast League) and Batavia's Christian Rosa (short-season Class A New York-Penn League) as former Rockford players that took home titles in 2008.

Hagen hit .182 with a home run and four RBI in the postseason, but he had a key plate appearance in Monday's series-clinching Game 4. In the eighth inning, Hagen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The HBP tied the score at 2-2. Hagen was 1-for-3 in the game.

Somerset's Travis Anderson hit a walkoff home run in the ninth.

During the regular season, Hagen hit .308 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI. He also stole a career-best 34 bases.
