RiverHawks make deadline moves
« Back

August 12, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks made two roster moves prior to Monday’s Frontier League roster deadline.

The team added pitcher Mathew Wilson to the active roster and placed outfielder Aaron Davis on the retired list.

Wilson was signed on Aug. 1 but his activation was hold pending approval of his visa. The native of Toronto has pitched for the Canadian national team and is a true rookie. The right-hander was 6-1 with a 3.67 ERA in 10 starts this spring as a senior at Bucknell University. He struck out 73 and walked 16 in 68 2/3 innings. Wilson pitched a 7-0 shutout against Florida State in a NCAA regional game on May 30.

Wilson is scheduled to make his professional debut on Thursday against Southern Illinois.

Davis hit .247 with three homers and nine RBI in 26 games with Rockford.

The Frontier League roster deadline was 10:59 p.m. CDT Monday. After that time, teams can only make moves to replace players who have been injured or signed by a major-league organization. Teams that wish to activate a player from the disabled list or a foreign player that is on a visa hold must have created a roster vacancy before the deadline.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 16th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
