RiverHawks to welcome 1 millionth fan
« Back

July 30, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The 1 millionth fan in Rockford RiverHawks franchise history is going to walk through the gates of Road Ranger Stadium on Wednesday.

The RiverHawks, whose professional-baseball franchise dates to 1993 and who have been in the Stateline since the 2002 season, announced a surprise thank you for the lucky fan who is number 1,000,000. When that fan enters the stadium, he or she will receive a RiverHawks jersey from the 2004 Frontier League championship season, a 10-game mini-plan and the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Fan Appreciation Night.

The 1,233rd fan in the stadium will be the 1 millionth in franchise history.

“Although it’s been more than one city that has contributed to the million fans, we’re proud to contribute to nearly 700,000 of those,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “With the winning success of the RiverHawks and the increased popularity of our brand of affordable family entertainment, it won’t take long before we announce our 1 millionth fan just since we relocated to the Stateline.

The franchise, which originated in Portsmouth, Ohio in 1993, spent 1993-94 as the Portsmouth Explorers and 1995-2001 as the Springfield Capitals. The RiverHawks have drawn 698,890 fans since their November 2001 relocation to Marinelli Field. The team opened Road Ranger Stadium in 2006.

Fan Appreciation Night is scheduled for Aug. 28.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 16th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
