July 24, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Aaron Davis and Robert Sabates hit first-inning home runs for Rockford as the RiverHawks beat Evansville, 9-4, on Thursday in front of a near-capacity crowd of 3,017 at Road Ranger Stadium.

The RiverHawks, who have beaten the Otters five times in seven meetings this season, have won five of their last six games.

Rockford jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. In the first inning, Joe Anthonsen led off with a single and Davis followed with a two-run homer to the beer garden in right field. With one out, Sabates homered to the corner in left field. In the second inning, Jason James singled with the bases loaded and Sabates hit a sacrifice fly.

Evansville got on the board in the third inning on a Luke Hetherington RBI double.

Kyffin Marcum (4-1), the third of six Rockford pitchers, was awarded the win because starter Roy Bringleson did not pitch the minimum five innings. Marcum struck out the side in the fifth inning. Evansville starter Adam Rogers (5-3) gave up six runs, five earned, on 13 hits over six innings and took the loss.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The first 1,000 through the gate will receive RiverHawks umbrellas, courtesy of Q98.5. Santa will visit the ballpark on Christmas in July. The FatWallet.com Friday Night Fireworks series follows the game.
