June 23, 2008 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Windy City jumped out to an early nine-run lead on Monday and went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 9-4.

The ThunderBolts won for the 15th time in 21 regular-season meetings over the last two years. They’ve outscored Rockford, 48-23, in five games this year – four of them Windy City wins.

Windy City scored five times in the second inning, thanks in part to two Rockford errors. With the bases loaded and one out, Danny Sawyer reached on a run-scoring error by shortstop Jono Brooks. Rockford starter Jim Paduch threw a run-scoring wild pitch. With two outs, Mike Coles doubled in two runs and scored on an error.

Phil Hawke led off the third inning with his sixth home run of the year – his fourth off Rockford pitching. He capped a three-run third inning with a two-out, two-run single to make the score 9-0 and drive Paduch from the mound. Just four of the nine runs off Paduch (3-3) were earned.

Windy City starter Amos Ramon (2-1) scattered a run on five hits over six innings for the win. Jason Lowey got the ‘Bolts out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the eighth inning and earned his second save.

The RiverHawks rallied with a run in the sixth inning and three in the seventh, but left 10 men on base. Jason James was 3-for-5 and doubled in two runs in the seventh.

The series finale is at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. The RiverHawks’ next home game is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, when they play Gateway. It’s Billy Williams Bobblehead Doll Night, sponsored by Dr Pepper. The first 1,000 fans through the gate receive a bobblehead doll honoring the Hall of Fame former Chicago Cub.
