« Back

May 21, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – In case you’re wondering, Schutt is pronounced “shut”, as in shut out.

Veteran right-hander Chris Schutt pitched seven scoreless innings Wednesday as the Rockford RiverHawks beat River City, 9-1, in the season opener.

Schutt scattered two hits, struck out six and walked three to get the win. Schutt struck out the side in his final inning of work, in front of a sellout crowd of 3,390 at Road Ranger Stadium.

All nine Rockford runs, six in the fourth inning and three in the fifth, were unearned. An error and a passed ball on a third strike put two runners on base with nobody out for Chris Raber. Raber broke the scoreless tie with a RBI single to left field. Rockford scored its half-dozen runs in the fourth inning off two errors and just four hits. Jono Brooks broke the game open with a two-run, two-out single off losing pitcher Chris Clem.

The opening homestand continues with a 7:05 p.m. game on Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night. The Army and Marines sponsor Military Appreciation Night.
