RiverHawks add Lempesis to coaching staff

May 19, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Spiro Lempesis will be spending more time at Road Ranger Stadium this season.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced Monday that they have hired Lempesis as the team’s bullpen coach. Each of the last two springs, Lempesis, the head coach at Concordia University of Chicago, has reached the championship game of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament, which is also played at the home of the RiverHawks.

This year, Concordia went 32-13, the top overall record in the NAC, and for the second straight year, fell in the tournament final to Rockford College. RiverHawks manager Bob Koopmann is also the head coach at Rockford College.

Lempesis played both baseball and hockey at St. Mary’s University, located in Winona, Minn.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, when the RiverHawks host River City. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer.
