Shortstop Brooks to return

March 11, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – One of last year’s second-half stars will return to the Rockford RiverHawks this season.

The team announced on Tuesday that they have picked up the 2008 option on shortstop Jono Brooks. Brooks, 22, hit .299 with a home run and 16 RBI in 42 games for the RiverHawks last season. Brooks turned 10 double plays, committed eight errors and recorded a .946 fielding percentage.

Brooks was 9-for-24 (.375) in his final eight games. On the final day of the season, he was 3-for-6 with a homer and two RBI as the RiverHawks swept a doubleheader from Kalamazoo to edge the Kings for the final Frontier League playoff spot.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. May 21, when the RiverHawks host River City. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer.
