March 3, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins will be making the rounds of the Rock River Valley on July 19.

The former Chicago Cub, in cooperation with the Rockford RiverHawks, Little Cubs Field and the city of Freeport, will appear at both stadiums that day. In addition, the RiverHawks will offer a bobblehead doll featuring Jenkins at their game that night.

The RiverHawks and the city of Freeport have teamed up for Freeport Night at that night’s 7:05 p.m. game against River City at Road Ranger Stadium. Tickets for that night’s game are already available for sale through the city of Freeport office.

“Our goal is to sell out the ballpark, with heavy representation from Freeport,” RiverHawks assistant general manager Marshall Mackinder said.

The day’s events will promote Little Cubs Field, a Wrigley Field replica scaled for youth baseball. The facility opens next month in Freeport. Jenkins will make an appearance there earlier in the day. Among the events in Freeport Jenkins will participate in are a pitching clinic, an autograph show and an opportunity to hit a home run off the 1971 National League Cy Young Award winner. Rocko the RiverHawk, along with several players, will attend the event as well.

At the RiverHawks’ game that night, the first 1,000 fans will receive bobblehead dolls, sponsored by Little Cubs Field, featuring Jenkins. Jenkins, who will throw out a ceremonial first pitch, will also autograph his bobblehead in exchange for a donation. Half of each donation will go to the Fergie Jenkins Foundation and half to Little Cubs Field.

“We look forward to a big night in Freeport and a big night here at the stadium, all as part of helping out a good cause,” Mackinder said.

Further details will be announced as the date nears.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. May 21, when the RiverHawks host River City. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet.
