August 17, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Former Chicago Cub Bob Dernier is joining the guest list for the annual Doctors-Lawyers Game.
Dernier will manage the team of Rockford-area physicians. Milt Pappas, another former Cub, will manage the team of local barristers in the game, to be played at 4 p.m. Saturday at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks’ game against Southern Illinois follows at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.
Derenier spent 10 years in the National League with Philadelphia and Chicago. Dernier played for the Cubs in 1984-87 and was a regular on their 1984 NL East championship team. Dernier was a career .255 hitter.
Pappas pitched for Baltimore, Cincinnati, Atlanta and the Cubs in a 17-year career and won 209 games. He pitched the last no-hitter by a Cub, Sept. 2, 1972 against San Diego at Wrigley Field.
Proceeds from the game will be donated to the charity chosen by the winning team.
The Doctors-Lawyers Hardball Challenge began in 1887, when the Doctors won, 27-21. The series took a break until 2003, and has been played annual since then. Results of recent games follows:

2005 – Lawyers 16, Doctors 4
2006 – Doctors 10, Lawyers 6
