RiverHawks complete sweep with 9-2 blowout

August 16, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Belvidere native Andrew Sweet was 3-for-5 with a RBI on Thursday as the Rockford RiverHawks beat Evansville, 9-2.

The RiverHawks completed a three-game series sweep, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 2,832 at Road Ranger Stadium.

The RiverHawks gained a game on Kalamazoo, an 11-6 loser at Chillicothe. The RiverHawks trail the Kings by 2½ games in the wild card.

Rockford led from the first inning on. Evansville committed three errors and a passed ball and gave up four unearned runs.

Rockford scored without a hit in the first. Mark Murray walked the first two hitters and Will Henderson later hit a sacrifice fly. Rockford got a pair of unearned runs in the second and one in the fifth. Murray (2-3) was gone after four innings.

The RiverHawks blew the game open with a four-run sixth inning that featured doubles from Jono Brooks, Matt Hagen and Sweet. Sweet had two doubles in the game and extended his hitting streak to nine games, the last three since a Monday trade from River City to Rockford.

Brady Salter (5-4) had a shutout until Mike Spry’s two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning.

The RiverHawks host the Southern Illinois Miners at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The first 250 through the gates will receive a 2006 RiverHawks logo lapel pin, courtesy of Mincemoyer Jewelry and WZOK. It’s also the last installment of the FatWallet.com/WIFR Friday Night Fireworks Series.
