July 27, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Friday that they signed two former New York State League players.

The RiverHawks signed corner infielder Ryan McArdle and pitcher Justin Young. McArdle played for the Utica Brewmasters and Young for the Herkimer Trailbusters. The NYSL, which did not make statistics available to the public, folded last Friday.

To make room on the roster, the RiverHawks released utility infielder Sean McFadden and pitcher Vinnie Rizzi. McFadden, who made the team out of spring training, hit .191 with no home runs and 11 RBI in 31 games. Rizzi, acquired earlier this month via trade from the NYSL’s Rome ballclub had no record, no saves and a 10.38 earned-run average in two appearances.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet.
