Washington hits four homers, beats ‘Hawks, 10-3

July 25, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things hit four home runs Wednesday and hammered the Rockford RiverHawks, 10-3.

Robbie Knapp homered twice and drove in five runs for the Wild Things, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Matt Sutton and Mario Garza hit solo home runs for Washington.

Matt Sauls led off the Rockford first inning with his fifth home run. Sauls extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Knapp hit a three-run homer to left field off Rockford starter Brady Salter in the first inning. Washington led the rest of the night.

Sauls’ home run to left-center in the first and Matt Hagen’s RBI single in the second pulled Rockford within a run, but Washington took advantage of three consecutive Rockford errors to score an unearned run in the fourth inning.

The Wild Things pulled away on Sutton’s homer in the sixth and home runs by Knapp and Garza in the seventh.

Salter (3-4) gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Washington starter Alan Stidfole (3-0) went five innings for the win.

The rubber match of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night. The RiverHawks will take the field in their camo uniforms on Military Appreciation Night.
