July 16, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Three Rockford RiverHawks homered and two combined to shut out the Gateway Grizzlies, 7-0, on Monday.

Matt Sauls, Will Henderson and Matt Hagen hit home runs for Rockford. Garrett Bauer and Bobby Mack combined on a six-hit shutout for the RiverHawks, who have won four in a row since the Frontier League All-Star break. Gateway has dropped four straight since the break.

Bauer (3-3), last year’s All-Star game starting pitcher, won for the first time since June 7. He struck out six, walked three and scattered five hits over six innings. Bauer struck out back-to-back hitters to escape a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the second, Joey Huskins put Rockford in front with a RBI single. In the third, Sauls hit his fourth home run, a two-run shot off the batter’s eye in dead center field. Hagen made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Henderson led off the sixth inning with his fifth home run. Hagen hit a solo home run, his sixth, in the eighth inning.

Gateway starter Erik Dessau lost for the first time this season. Dessau (7-1) struck out six, but gave up six runs on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Mack pitched the last three innings to earn his first save. He retired the last eight Grizzlies in order.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. It’s another Ronnie Gators/Clodius/Curves Ladies Night, with free wine-tasting courtesy of Barefoot Wines. Early arrivals also have the opportunity to win free one-month memberships to Curves.
