July 15, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Matt Sauls’ second-inning home run powered the Rockford RiverHawks to a 7-3 win over River City on Sunday.

The RiverHawks completed a three-game series sweep of the Rascals, in front of a standing-room-only crowd of 3,927 at Road Ranger Stadium. Rockford has not lost since the Frontier League All-Star break and is one game behind wild-card leader Southern Illinois. The Miners beat Florence, 10-9, on Sunday.

Rockford never trailed in the series. In the second inning, Albert Ayala hit Joey Huskins. Matt Hagen followed with a broken-bat infield single. With two outs, Sauls hit a three-run homer over the hitter’s background in center field.

Ayala (2-2) gave up two unearned runs in the fourth inning and didn’t return for the fifth.

River City got back into the game on a solo home run by Angel Colon in the fifth inning and Bobby Mosby’s two-run homer, his 15th of the year, in the sixth.

Rockford put the game away with single runs in the seventh and eighth.

Rockford starter James Cramphin (1-1) lasted 5 2/3 innings and earned his first professional victory. The Rockford bullpen combined to throw 7 1/3 scoreless innings in the series.

The RiverHawks face West Division-leading Gateway in a three-game series that starts at 7:05 p.m. on Half-Price Monday, when select concessions items are slashed by 50 percent. At 5 p.m., the RiverHawks will hold another Saturn of Rockford/WREX Youth Clinic. Kids up to age 12 are invited onto the field to learn baseball from the professionals.
