Cohen’s beer-garden shot lifts ‘Hawks, 4-3

June 23, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Brandon Cohen didn’t wait for the game to end before he visited the beer garden.

The Rockford DH hit a tie-breaking home run to the Stone & Double-T beer garden, located behind the right-field fence, in the bottom of the eighth inning. The RiverHawks beat Florence, 4-3, to extend their winning streak to a season-best four games.

Cohen hit his third home run of the season, off Domingo Acosta (0-3) with one out in the eighth. He's the first RiverHawk ever to reach the beer garden. He's the first RiverHawk ever to reach the beer garden. Cohen homered in front of a near-sellout crowd of 2,704 that included his grandparents, visiting from New Jersey.

Rockford never trailed. In the second inning, Will Henderson led off with a single and scored on a passed ball. In the sixth, Sean McFadden hit a two-out, two-run single.

Rockford starter Brady Salter left with a 3-0 lead after giving up back-to-back singles to start the Florence eighth inning. Dave Dowling allowed both runners to score and gave up a game-tying RBI double by Nick Salotti. Dowling (2-3) blew the save, but got the win.

The RiverHawks go for a sweep of the three-game series at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. On Feldco/B-103 Family Nights, families can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for $40 on the Family Four Pack. Kids get to run the bases after the game.
