June 20, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – John Gragg gave the Chillicothe Paints a brief taste of the lead on Wednesday before he and the Rockford bullpen slammed the door shut.

Jason James and Roberto Valiente homered as the RiverHawks rallied and beat Chillicothe, 6-4.

Gragg, who gave up a RBI single to John Poterson and a three-run homer to Adrian Cantu in the top of the first inning, didn’t allow another runner to reach scoring position until the sixth inning. Gragg (2-3) gave up six hits, struck out six and pitched into the seventh inning.

James hit a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the first inning and a two-out, two-run single to left field in the fifth inning. He has reached base safely in each of his last 19 games.

Valiente followed James’ single with a two-run homer to dead center to put Rockford in front.

Rockford closer Mike Marksbury struck out four of the five he faced and earned his fifth save. Marksbury pitched the RiverHawks out of a two-on, one-out jam in the eighth inning and struck out the side in the ninth.

Chillicothe starter Bryan Johnson (3-1) gave up six runs in five-plus innings.
