RiverHawks sign three, release three

June 12, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced today that they have signed three pitchers.

Right-handers Drew Himes and Roy Baca and lefty Roy Bringelson all have rookie status in the Frontier League. Following Monday’s game, the RiverHawks released pitchers Gerad Bryan, John Brownell and Chad Catalano.

Himes has previous professional experience. In 2005, he was 3-0 with a 6.37 earned-run average in 17 appearances for Houston’s short-season Class A affiliate at Tri-City in the New York-Penn League. Last season, he was 2-2 with a 3.18 ERA with Gateway. Himes was 0-2 with a 8.56 ERA in three appearances with the Grizzlies this season. Gateway released him on Monday.

Baca was 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 appearances at Texas State University. He struck out 74 and walked 29 in 71 innings.

Bringelson was 4-10 with a 3.26 ERA and a save in 16 appearances at Ashford University. He struck out 86 and walked 34 in 88 1/3 innings.

Bryan, a true rookie, was 0-0 with a 27.00 ERA in three appearances. Brownell was 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in nine games. Catalano, the RiverHawks’ first-round pick in the league tryout draft, was 0-0 with an 11.00 ERA in five appearances.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season.
