Beach Bums top Rockford, 6-3

May 28, 2007 - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Rockford struggled on getaway day, losing 6-3 to the Traverse City Beach Bums in upper Michigan.

Traverse City broke a scoreless tie in the fourth as RiverHawks starter Garrett Bauer (0-1) issued four straight walks to start the inning. Jeff Vincent was awarded an RBI as Jeff Brown scored from third. The five-run inning was capped by a two-run single from J.T. Thomas . The run-scoring hit chased Bauer from the game, who pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs off two hits. He walked seven.

Vincent added an RBI single in the fifth off Rockford relief pitcher Bobby Darling .

The RiverHawks cut the deficit in half in the seventh, as Will Henderson leadoff the inning with a single. A sacrifice fly from Victor Roldan brought in the first Rockford run of the game. RBI singles from Sean McFadden and Roberto Valiente concluded the RiverHawks scoring.

Beach Bums starter Tony Casoli (1-1) was strong, logging seven innings of three-run, eight-hit ball. The 2006 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year retired 17 straight RiverHawks during the game.

The Rockford bullpen combined for 4 2/3 innings of one-run, two-hit ball and retired the final ten Beach Bums batters.

Nick Pepper (1) pitched a perfect ninth for his first professional save.
