RiverHawks lose, 5-2

May 24, 2007 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks are 0-2 for the first time in team history.

Windy City scored twice in the fourth inning and thrice in the sixth to wipe out an early Rockford lead and beat the RiverHawks, 5-2.

The ThunderBolts won the season opener, 14-11, on Wednesday. The four-game series moves to Road Ranger Stadium for the RiverHawks’ home opener, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday.

Brandon Cohen hit a solo home run to right field in the second inning to give the RiverHawks a 1-0 lead. Scott Balster wiped that out with a two-out, two-run single to right in the fourth.

Oregon resident Brady Salter got the start for the RiverHawks. Phil Hawke knocked him out with a RBI double in the sixth. J.P. Lowen doubled in two more later in the inning.

Salter, a former New York Yankees farmhand making his RiverHawks debut, gave up four runs on eight hits and took the loss. Shawn Phillips scattered a run on three hits over six innings and struck out seven to get the win. Matt Petty pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save.

The gates at Road Ranger Stadium open at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The first 250 through the gate will receive fifth-anniversary logo lapel pins, courtesy of Mincemoyer Jewelers and Cumulus Radio. Some early arrivals will receive CoCo Key indoor water park weekday passes. Following the game is the season premier of the FatWallet.com/WIFR Friday Night Fireworks Series.

Salter gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out four and didn't walk a hitter in five-plus innings.
