April 19, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced today that they have added an experienced minor-leaguer as well as some true rookies to their spring-training roster.

The team has signed outfielder Parris Austin, who spent four seasons in the New York Mets organization, as well as four players – second baseman Sean McFadden, catchers Adam Hutchins and Ryan Schmidt, pitcher Mike McInerney – straight out of NCAA Division II programs.

“(Austin) gives us a rookie guy who has three years of experience in affiliated baseball,” director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said.

The Mets drafted Austin in the 16th round of the 2004 draft. He split last year between the Kingsport of the rookie-level Appalachian League and the Hagerstown Suns of the Class A South Atlantic League. Austin was 3-for-18 with a RBI at Kingsport and 9-for-32 with a RBI at Hagerstown. He is a career .267 hitter. He has rookie status in the Frontier League.

McFadden was a four-year starter at Nova Southeastern University. As a senior, McFadden was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region first team and was on the all-Sunshine State Conference first team. He hit .390 with four home runs and 43 RBI last year. He finished his career with a school-record 420 assists and 266 hits, second on the all-time list. He currently is a graduate assistant in the school’s sports information department.

Hutchins played college ball at three schools, most recently at Lander University. He hit .299 with three homers and 36 RBI last year.

Schmidt played at Columbia University and at Wisconsin-Parkside. Last year at UWP, he hit .279 with two homers and 18 RBI.

McInerney played at Lassen Community College and at Missouri Western State University. Last year, McInerney was 4-6 with six saves and a 5.93 ERA as a senior. He is currently a student assistant on the coaching staff at MWSU.
