RiverHawks help Q98.5 raise money for St. Jude

March 14, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks helped area radio station Q98.5 raise more than a quarter of a million dollars for a children's hospital.

Last week's St. Jude's Kids Marathon at Cherryvale Mall raised more than $260,000 in a two-day period for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude, located in Memphis, Tenn., is dedicated to treatment and research of childhood cancer and other catastrophic pediatric diseases. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.

The RiverHawks were one of the area corporations to sponsor the event.

"This is another charity that we're involved with," general manager Josh Olerud said. "The check was presented courtesy of (team co-owner and director of baseball operations) Dave Ciarrachi and the Rockford RiverHawks. Dave's been a supporter of St. Jude for the last twentysomething years."

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
