RiverHawks re-sign seven

February 23, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Seven members of last season’s Frontier League West Division champions are returning to the Rockford RiverHawks. The team announced today that it had re-signed infielders Joe Anthonsen, Jake Bowen and Brad Dutton, outfielder Matt Sauls, and pitchers Garrett Bauer, Bobby Darling and Adam Kroft. Anthonsen and Bauer were all-stars last year. “We are really happy that some of the core unit is really coming back,” manager J.D. Arndt said. “We’re expecting the rest of the core to come back as well. We’re really excited about getting these guys back together for a second consecutive year.” Bauer was the starting pitcher for the West in last year’s all-star game. He finished 6-5 with a 2.82 ERA in 19 starts. Anthonsen batted .286 with no home runs and 39 RBI in 93 games. He stole 22 bases. Bowen, drafted in the third round of the league’s tryout-camp draft, made the team and batted .200 with no home runs and 14 RBI. Despite not having played organized ball since junior college, the 25-year old walked 46 times and struck out just 44 times in 74 games. Dutton hit .217 with three homers and 28 RBI. He committed just 10 errors in 67 games, split among second base, shortstop and third base. Sauls batted .273 with seven homers and 26 RBI in 68 games. Kroft was 6-3 with a 2.00 ERA and a save in a team-record 43 appearances. Darling was 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 11 appearances. The team holds options on all players it had under contract last season. Darling still has rookie status. Kroft and Sauls have 2-Year status in the Frontier League. The others are 1-Year players. The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007.
