RiverHawks trade two to San Diego, pick up three in deal
« Back

November 20, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks today announced a trade that may help fill what were holes at three significant positions in 2006.

The RiverHawks traded infielder Dave Keesee and a player to be named later to the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the independent Golden League for catcher Joey Huskins, first baseman Will Henderson and third baseman Victor Roldan.

“We had plans for Keesee perhaps being one of our middle infielders (in 2007), but you have to give up something to get something,” RiverHawks owner Dave Ciarrachi said. “The guy that will be named will be a guy that can contribute for them.”

Ciarrachi’s son, former RiverHawks catcher Kevin Ciarrachi, spent part of the 2006 season with San Diego.

“This is a pretty attractive trade for us, because I didn’t think we could get all three guys,” Dave Ciarrachi said. “Kevin gave me some very positive recommendations on these guys.”

Huskins, a converted outfielder, hit .325 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 117 at-bats.

Henderson hit .264 with five homers and nine RBI in 87 at-bats. He began the season with Joliet of the Northern League, where he hit .286 with three homers and 10 RBI in 98 at-bats. Ciarrachi said the San Diego coaching staff told him Henderson has 20-homer potential in the Frontier League.

Roldan hit .291 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 175 at-bats.

“He’s a left-handed guy, so he gives us a little balance in the middle of the order,” Ciarrachi said.

Each of the new RiverHawks were true rookies in 2006. Huskins will have rookie status in the Frontier League; the other two are classified as 1-Year players.

Keesee hit .361 with three RBI in 18 games after the RiverHawks picked him up at the roster deadline in August.

The RiverHawks are defending West Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. Advertising, ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255.
