August 26, 2006 - ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks and River City Rascals split a pair of games that broke a pair of attendance records.

The RiverHawks won the opener of a doubleheader, 5-2, and lost the nightcap, 2-0, Saturday at RiverHawks Stadium.

The announced crowd of 4,180 broke the stadium record of 4,078 set in the ballpark’s May 31 opener. In addition, the RiverHawks passed last year’s record total of 103,248. They have now drawn 106,934 with three home dates left.

In the opener, Rockford catcher Gooby Gerlits was 2-for-3 with four RBI. He doubled in two runs in the second inning and singled in two more in the fourth to give the RiverHawks a 4-0 lead.

Batterymate Shaun Parker struck out seven for the win. Parker (4-6) combined with Adam Kroft on a five-hitter. Kroft replaced Parker after a leadoff single in the ninth and retired three in a row to earn his first save.

Caleb McConnell (2-1) lasted four innings and took the loss.

In the nightcap, Jason Boyd’s one-on, one-out homer to left field in the fifth inning was the difference. Derek Roper (6-6) struck out seven and pitched a three-hitter in a losing effort. Brian Johnson (3-3) tossed a two-hit shutout for the Rascals.

The RiverHawks visit Evansville for a three-game series that begins at 6:05 p.m. Sunday.
