July 5, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Despite its cozy dimensions, RiverHawks Stadium hasn’t turned out to be a hitter’s park.

On Wednesday, the Rockford RiverHawks were shut out again at their brand-new stadium. Steve Soja pitched a four-hitter as the Gateway Grizzlies shut out the RiverHawks, 5-0.

The RiverHawks have been shut out five times this season – each time at home.

Mike Breyman and Taylor Johnson hit back-to-back home runs for Gateway, in front of 2,304.

Soja retired the first eight of the game and retired 11 more in order after Sauls singled in the fourth inning. Soja (4-2) struck out five and walked one.

Rockford starter Derek Roper (2-4) gave up five unearned runs after a two-out error in the fifth inning. Breyman hit a grand slam to the alley in right field. Johnson followed with a home run to the beer garden in right, the first time the watering hole had been hit.

Matt Sauls was 2-for-4 for the RiverHawks.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night.
