July 4, 2006 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Matt Sauls had two hits and three RBI to pace the Rockford RiverHawks to a 6-2 victory over Windy City in the rubber game of the series.

Starting pitcher Joe Barbosa (1-2) gave up just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings to get the win. This was Barbosa's third start since coming back from labrum surgery on his throwing shoulder. The 'Hawks had given him just one total run in his first two starts.

Sauls equalled that run support in the fourth inning when he doubled home Bo Flowers for the first run of the game. Rockford tacked on two more in the sixth on a Rico Santana ground out and a Joe Anthonsen sacrifice bunt.

Windy City chased Barbosa from the game in the seventh with three straight singles to open the inning. Dave Dowling came on in relief after Barbosa struck out the next batter and allowed just one inherited runner to score, that on a groundout.

The ThunderBolts would get no closer than the 3-2 deficit, as starter Toro Trevino (0-1) suffered his first professional loss.

The RiverHawks added three insurance runs in the ninth off reliever Ignacio Estrada, who earned the save last night. Sauls drove in two with a single. Joe Anthonsen's single plated Sauls.

Rockford has now won four of their last five games, and have ensured that manager J.D. Arndt will be in charge of the West Division in the upcoming all star game. The teams with the best record in each division after the completion of games on July 5 send their coaches to manage their respective divisions. Evansville and Gateway are both 2.5 games back of the RiverHawks. The all star game will be played July 12 in Evansville.

The RiverHawks now welcome in the Gateway Grizzlies for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. RiverHawks Stadium will host their Independence Fireworks following the game, thanks to Rock Valley College, Advanced Business Machines, and B103. Following those festivities, local band Cammi's NRG will play in the Stone & Double T Miller Lite Beer Garden.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season.
