July 2, 2006 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks trailed the Windy City ThunderBolts 3-2 going into the ninth inning, but the 'Hawks were able to take advantage of two 'Bolts errors to score the tying run and send it to extra innings.

From there, they dominated.

Gooby Gerlits began the ninth by grounding a ball to third baseman John Santor, who threw low and past the first baseman, Ben Diggins, who was charged with an error. Cody Brooks then tried to sacrifice himself, but closer Brian Beuning threw it over Diggin's head for another error to put runners on the corners. Bo Flowers singled in the tying run.

In the tenth inning, the RiverHawks got five hits to score four runs, with Nick Johnson doing most of the damage with a two-run single. Chris Lewis and Rico Santana also contributed with run-scoring singles. All of the runs were charged to Beuning (0-2), who took the loss.

Mike Marksbury gave up a hit and walked two in the bottom of the inning to make things interesting, but struck out Nick Ewen to end the game.

Rockford pitchers did not give up an earned run in the game. Starter Garrett Bauer saw three runs score in the third inning, but there was an error in the inning and all the runs scored with two outs. Dave Dowling (3-1) pitched a perfect inning and a third to get his second win in three days.

Stephen Holdren hit a home run in the top of the third inning to give the RiverHawks a brief 1-0 lead. Rockford did not score again until the seventh when Cody Brooks got a pinch-hit single to bring in Holdren.

The RiverHawks have now won three in a row and will face Windy City again on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 from Crestwood. The 'Hawks return home on Wednesday to host Gateway for a three-game series. They will have their Independence fireworks a day late following the game.
