RiverHawks shut out Florence, 3-0

June 21, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Tanner Watson and three relievers combined on a shutout on Wednesday as the Rockford RiverHawks shut out the Florence Freedom, 3-0.

Watson (2-1) scattered six hits, struck out seven and walked one over seven innings. Watson got out of jams in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings in part because Florence failed to execute three sacrifice opportunities. Mike Marksbury pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.

The RiverHawks won their third in a row, in front of 2,392 at RiverHawks Stadium.

The RiverHawks took the lead in the second inning on Mike Bidwell’s two-out RBI single. In the third, Bo Flowers made it 2-0 with a home run to left field.

Jake Bowen knocked Florence starter B.J. Church (1-3) out of the game with a one-out RBI single to right in the seventh inning.

The RiverHawks have a chance to sweep the series at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night. It’s also Parrothead Night, featuring a Jimmy Buffet tribute singer, a live parrot, $2 paradise cheeseburgers and $3 margaritas.
